Summer may have already started, but it’s still not too late to plan a trip. And considering there are a few national holidays (July 4th and Labor Day among them) to plan your vacation around, there’s no better time to maximize your travel plans, either. As a follow-up to last year’s summer travel episode, Meredith chatted with travel news director Erin Florio and senior commerce editor Elaheh Nozari about where they’re going, and where you should go, too—and held down the fort while Lale was exploring Bermuda with Women Who Travel Facebook group members.
Among their top picks? Dakar, Senegal, whose surf-friendly beaches, innovative music scene, and urban environs take about the same flight time to reach as Lisbon. Meanwhile, Elaheh is running through the Swiss Alps—yes, running on her own two legs from hotel to hotel—on one of her first group trips. Closer to home, Isla Holbox is on Erin’s planning list, thanks to its gorgeous stretches of beach, crystal clear water, and calmer (relative to Cancun, at least) vibe. As for Meredith? She’s going to Colombia with Women Who Travel and is really, really, really excited to exclusively eat paletas.
We also shout out a few hotels opening this summer that are worth planning a trip around, like the Guild Hotel in San Diego, the Block Island Beach House in Rhode Island, and Captain Whidbey Inn on Washington’s Whidbey Island. Plus, we dive into a bunch more destinations—and a few reasons why you should use the summer to take stock of your vacation days.
Thanks to Elaheh and Erin for spilling their summer travel secrets. Thanks also to Brett Fuchs for engineering and mixing. Check back every Tuesday for the latest installment of Women Who Travel.
