U.S. stock benchmarks midday Wednesday were trading at intraday highs, as President Donald Trump championed the successes of GOP candidates in midterm election races the day before. Democrats captured control of the House while Republicans tightened the grip on the Senate. However, Trump during a news conference pointed to the successes of candidates that he endorsed and campaigned for and underscored that GOP winners "defied history" in expanding control of the upper chamber of Congress, while "significantly beating expectations" in the outcome of races in House. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 350 points, or 1.4%, at 25,982, the S&P 500 index
rallied 1.5% at 2,797, while the Nasdaq Composite Index
advanced 2.1% at 7,529. During Trump’s news conference, the president appeared to extend an olive branch to Democrats, saying that he wanted to work together rather than have gridlock ensue. Trump declared that now is the time "to put partisan aside and keep the American economic miracle going strong."
