Amazon.com is reportedly in “advanced discussions” about choosing the Washington, D.C., suburb of Crystal City as the location for its second headquarters, known as HQ2, according to a report in the Washington Post.
Citing sources close to the selection process, the report noted that one top real estate developer had pulled some of its buildings off the leasing market. There have also reportedly been discussions among those in Crystal City regarding making a strategic announcement regarding HQ2 later in November.
Spokespersons for business groups and elected officials in the region all declined to comment on the story.
Crystal City is located just to the southwest of the nation’s capital and just to the south of the Pentagon. In addition, Reagan National Airport is adjacent to Crystal City.
Amazon’s selection process for HQ2 has been a closely watched story throughout 2018. There are said to be 20 cities as finalists for the company’s second North American headquarters that will have about 50,000 employees.
