OACYS Technology, a Porterville internet provider, announced it is installing fiber optic infrastructure in parts of the city.
According to Mark Johnson, sales and marketing manager for OACYS, this initiative is part of plan to bring Gigabit internet speeds (1,000 Mbps) to Porterville that the company has been working on for nearly two years. Those who will not be in the fiber service area will continue to have access to fiber backed wireless internet service. Currently with one subdivision fully served, construction has started in other areas with more currently being planned.
“We are very excited to get Gigabit connectivity up to the businesses and residents near these first few paths,” said Ryan Walker, President and CEO. “Those near these paths — as shown in the Service Zones at oacysfiber.com — could get service soon if they voice their interest in the online survey.”
Walker stated that construction crews are almost done with the first phase of the fiber ring, which will serve the west side of Porterville. This amounts to over two miles new fiber pathways. Work on the second phase will feed to the east of Highway 65, and is expected to be completed in within the next two months.
Over the next several years, OACYS is planning on building fiber throughout Porterville and beginning deployment in neighboring communities.
