Don't Get Hooked: Amazon work-from-home scam – KATV

An Amazon work-from-home scam is targeting Arkansans.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) –

Arkansans hoping to earn a little cash before the holidays need to watch out for one opportunity that is operated by Grinches.

Amazon is a company that offers great deals and great opportunities.

But the Arkansas Better Business Bureau wants to make sure you don’t get hooked by an Amazon work-from-home scam.

Talk of an Amazon distribution site opening in North Little Rock creating over 100 jobs may have created an opportunity for scam artists.

“That may have had a lot to do with it,” says Janet Robb with the Arkansas BBB. “Because typically scams like this will follow some sort of geographic lead as to where news is happening. It adds an air of legitimacy to it.”

In this scam, you get a call, email or text about a work-from-home job opportunity with Amazon that pays $20.00 per hour.

Scammers use the names Amazon Cash Website, stockretail.com and webstorejobs.com to help attract victims.

Remember…as soon as you are asked to share personal or financial information, pay for training materials or start-up kit or click a link…stop and hang up or delete.

“Most of the time a company is not going to reach out to you via Facebook, a text message or a phone call and offer you an opportunity to work from home for $20.00 an hour,” says Robb. “You’ve got to do some research.”

And that research should include contacting the company…in this case Amazon…to see if work-from-home job opportunities even exist.

Also check the web site of the Better Business Bureau to verify if such a “too-good-to-be-true” offer is a scam.

Robb says that the BBB’s “scam tracker” feature has recorded an increase in this scam in Arkansas over the past few weeks.
