A ticket to the Masters at Augusta National can easily run you well over $1,000.
Or you could take that money and spend it toward playing an epic round of golf on a historic course in Scotland or England.
Ask someone who’s done either of those and they’ll both tell you it was worth it. Especially if you were one who dropped money to travel to this year’s Masters tournament to see Tiger Wood’s amazing comeback victory.
The golf trip can be done in a number of ways, and the same goes with a sports-themed getaway around football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, you name it.
The point is to just go – whether you’re playing or watching. If sports are your passion, build a travel itinerary around it for a guaranteed good time.
Living in a college town, I meet several people every year who saved their money and vacation days to come and see their favorite team play.
Whether they’re coming back to their alma mater after moving or traveling with their team to experience a new town and stadium, many make their plans well in advance for a special sports filled trip.
Of course, last minute plans for big games and moments happen all the time, and they’re best done with the help of a travel agent for maximum savings.

Advice from an Agent
Tammy Selee is Producer Concerts at Sea/Harmon Travel located in Boise, Idaho. She can be reached at email@example.com
When asked what advice she would give travelers planning a sports-themed getaway, Selee said:
“Travelers should book their trip through an agent that focuses on sports-themed travel. It may be necessary for tee times in Scotland, or the need for a special fishing license or they may wish to stay at the “team” hotel during a big game. Many events such as the Kentucky Derby, US Open, Super Bowl, sell out far in advance, so the need to plan early is essential.”
When asked what advice she would give travel agents and advisors planning to sell sports themed vacations, Selee said:
“Niche travel can be very rewarding, but it takes a lot of time to learn the ins and outs of the various components. The options are endless: If you love golf, then it’s natural for you to become the golf expert and can take advantage in your community to plan golf adventures. Golf Pros are excellent pied pipers and if you can set yourself apart as the travel expert in your field, then you’re on your way. This stands true if you play any sport or are a sports enthusiast. Our agency has an agent that played golf in college at LSU, and she does an excellent job in selling golf travel, and she has played a number of courses around the world. I don’t believe that you to be an avid golfer to sell golf travel, or love football to sell packages to sporting events, but it does make it more enjoyable to create or sell travel in a niche that you love and are familiar.”
“Networking in your community is key to getting your name known as the specialist. Social media is a wonderful tool to use and create a Facebook/Instagram business page pertaining to your specialty and will attract potential customers to you. To specialize in any form of selling travel, takes dedication, perseverance, continued education, and desire. If you can make the commitment to pursue this specialized segment in the travel industry, you will have unlimited success, but be conscious that it won’t happen overnight.”
